Cautus Geo strengthens in the field on natural hazards

Bjørnar Nevland Knudsen (28) is a newly appointed surveyor at Cautus Geo. He comes from a position as a surveying engineer at Scan Survey. His first day of work was 3 January 2024 - "He strengthens us in the area of natural hazards," says CEO Atle Gerhardsen.

Monitoring natural hazards is part of Cautus Geo's DNA. Since 2009, the company has instrumented and monitored the high-risk classified mountain section Mannen. The work areas are mapping, instrumentation, operation and data management of warning systems for the stability of rocks, soil, structures and monitoring of water and land areas.

- "We are delighted to have Bjørnar on the team. His master's degree in geomatics in combination with geology is a good fit for us," says Gerhardsen.

Specialist

Cautus Geo specialises in geomonitoring. This involves automatic monitoring and alerting of natural hazards, the environment and climate, building and construction, transport and structures.

Bjørnar will particularly strengthen the company within monitoring and protection against natural hazards.

- "Working in the field with natural hazards is a dream job for people like me who love hiking," says Bjørnar. Originally from Sandnes in Rogaland, he now lives a few minutes' journey from the head office at Lysaker.

He brings with him recent professional experience as a surveying engineer at Scan Survey AS.

Versatile

Bjørnar specialises in photogrammetry and image processing from NMBU in Ås. He also has a bachelor's degree in geology from the University of Bergen.

Geomatics is interdisciplinary. It combines geographic information systems (GIS), cartography and geodesy in the use of technology to collect, analyse and present geographic information.

- "I'll be able to put both my degrees to good use here and work with good people," says Bjørnar, who will combine fieldwork with instrumentation, reporting, project management and developing services mainly within geodetic and natural hazard monitoring.
