Cautus Geo monitors the aquatic environment, buildings and installations around Sævareid Fiskeanlegg, which is to be expanded.

Problem statement

Sævareid Fiskeanlegg is to multiply its capacity for salmon smolt production. This requires blasting, demolition and a lot of building and construction work close to vulnerable and clean nature. The work must not have any negative consequences for the river, fish or surrounding buildings.

Solution

Cautus Geo installed turbidity stations upstream and downstream. It's all about keeping control of any particles in the water. Buildings and structures in the area are monitored with vibration meters. Data is continuously sent to Cautus Web for real-time analysis. Cautus Web sends an alarm to the project if set limit values are breached.

Sævareid Fiskeanlegg has been producing salmon smolt since 1978, the year after the 100-year-old Sævareid Karton og Papfabrik was closed down.

The facility has been expanded several times. The plant currently produces eight million smolts. After the NOK 600 million expansion, capacity will be increased to almost 30 million smolts. The company's 22 employees know all about having pure nature as an advantage. This will also be ensured through the expansion, which involves blasting, demolition, excavation, the foundation of a concrete wall and the construction of new hatchery and starter feed departments.

Cautus Geo's environmental monitoring measures possible particles against the clean water opposite the plant. Updated reference values come from the river.

Buildings and facilities in the area will be monitored with vibration meters during the demolition work in autumn 2025. The meters are placed at 13 different locations on buildings, structures, transformer kiosks, power stations, dams and fish tanks.

Monitoring is automatic and continuous. Data is continuously sent to Cautus Web for real-time analysis. If set limit values are breached, an alarm is triggered. The building management is then notified.
