Marine current meters are used to measure and record current velocity and direction in rivers, lakes and oceans. The meters can be equipped with various sensors such as ultrasonic, acoustic doppler effects or propeller wheels to accurately measure the characteristics of the water flow. Cautus Geo offers flow measurement and has extensive experience from such projects.

The flow meters we normally use have a range of up to 90 metres for profiling measurements. This allows for accurate and efficient data collection in various environmental conditions.

The technology focuses on providing accurate average flow measurements. It is specifically designed for use in flows with significant variations in velocity. This makes it ideal for environments where flow patterns are unpredictable or changing.

Areas of application

One of the most important applications is in studies of tidal currents, where precise measurements are crucial for understanding the movements in the cycle. The technology is also suitable for wave buoys, making it flexible in use and ideal for ocean-based applications. This makes it a valuable tool for various projects involving the measurement of flow velocities and directions.

Operation and installation

The operating period from internal batteries varies depending on the measurement interval and depth, but as an example, a profiling instrument can be operated for approximately two months with a 15-minute measurement interval.

The meters can be mounted in various ways, such as on quays, mooring lines, floating buoys or on the seabed.
