Cautus Geo will secure the new construction pit and concrete tunnel for the Follo Line. Instrumentation work will start this summer.

Cautus Geo has a long track record on the Follo Line project. In 2016, Cautus Geo established automatic monitoring at the Oslo S station entrance, from Ekebergåsen, through Middelalderparken and into the station area. Measurements are reported in real time via Cautus Web.

At the new Ski station, which is also part of the Follo Line project, Cautus Geo has established automatic monitoring of tracks and the station building.

The Follo Line is Norway's largest transport project. It will be dimensioned for high-speed trains and six tracks will be established at Ski station.

Summer jobs

This summer, Bane NOR is stopping train traffic during the busiest holiday weeks. This will allow for extensive construction work. In the Oslo Central Station area, where there are demanding ground conditions, tracks will be re-laid and moved to a new concrete tunnel built under Middelalderparken.

Cautus Geo will monitor and ensure that everything is steady and stable. The construction pit and concrete tunnel will be monitored. This ensures monitoring of the stability of the concrete tunnel with new tracks and established tracks in the heavily trafficked area.

The work starts this summer. During August and September, all the sensors will be in place. Automatic and continuous monitoring of any movements in the ground will then begin.

500 metres long

Sensors will be installed along a stretch of around half a kilometre. Inclinometers will be installed on the sheet piling, a total station for measuring prisms in the new area, temperature gauges to provide frost control, and nodes for monitoring the structure itself, to name just some of the key instrumentation that will be put in place.

The monitoring that is established ensures stability down to solid ground, i.e. from ground level down to rock or stable ground masses.

The monitoring will start this autumn and will initially be carried out until after the opening of the new Follo Line in December 2022.

New Follo Line

  • Construction of double track between Ski and Oslo Central Station.
  • The journey time is halved from 22 to 11 minutes.
  • 22 kilometres long. Tunnel of 20 kilometres in two separate tunnels (the longest in the Nordic region). Includes 64 kilometres of train tracks.
